I love kiwi. Kiwi is fun to say. It's a cute little fruit. It's tasty. It's easy and fun. When I was a kid, my mom used to pack me a kiwi in my lunch. It always came with a plastic knife and a spoon. I used the knife to cut off the top of the kiwi and then dug out the fruit with the spoon. We called it a 'kiwi cup'. My younger brother used to eat the kiwi skin after finishing the cup. Gross. I stuck to the delicious green fruit inside.
The kiwi cup is perfect because you don't have to waste time peeling the skin off the kiwi. One summer in college, I worked in the kitchen of a summer camp. Each Sunday, we had an enormous brunch for the parents when they came to pick up their kids. We served a lot of fruit at the brunch and somehow it was always my job to peel the kiwi. I would spend hours peeling kiwi with a dull knife and would always think about how much easier it would be if everyone would adopt the kiwi cup method.
So next time you see a kiwi at the grocery store, buy it (it's an excellent source of vitamin C!), cut off the top, and scoop out the innards. It's efficient, easy, fun and most of all delicious!
