Whimsical Stitched Art

whimsical stitched art

July 6, 2011

How was your 4th of July weekend? Mine was hot...very very hot. On Sunday, I braved the heat to walk around the Cherry Creek Arts Festival in Denver. And before I melted, I purchased the cool piece of art pictured above.

The artist, Andrew Johnson, creates his pieces with a technique called Embroidery Digitizing. The process involves sketching and coloring an image, importing it into a program and then building the design stitch by stitch. He describes it as "painting with stitches" and his designs have an average of 20,000 stitches per piece.

Check out more of Andrew's designs on his website, www.thestitchmaestro.com.
