yarns i like and where i buy them

Yarns I like Lately, I've been receiving some questions about where I buy my yarn and which types I like to use.  When I first started knitting, I didn't think it mattered whether you used cotton or wool or cheap yarn.  The more experience I have knitting, the more I have come to appreciate good-quality yarn.  However, I've also discovered inexpensive yarns that I love.  Here are some of my current favorites:

  • Lion's Cotton-ease is a 50/50 cotton/acrylic blend.  There are some yarn snobs out there that don't like it, but I'm not one of them.  I love the color choices that mix and match together so well.  The yarn shows a pattern well and is perfect for baby blankets since it's durable and machine washable.  I usually buy my Cotton-ease online at the Knitting-Warehouse Some of my Cotton-ease projects include this blanket and this one too and this little hat
  • Knit Picks I like most Knit Picks yarns.  The materials are quality, the yarn knits up beautifully and all of the yarn is very reasonably priced.  I'm currently making a project with City Tweed DK and the next one in line will be with Telemark (100% Peruvian wool).
  • Lily's Sugar'n Cream I have close to 15 different colors of this in my stash right now.  I like the variety of colors, the cheap price, the fact that it's easy to mix and match.  Usually I use this for small projects like hats or dishcloths or a potholder I'll be posting about soon.
  • Etsy When I want to treat myself to something nice, I buy some hand-spun yarn from Etsy.  The spinners have great colors that are unique for smaller projects.  I love to browse them and look at the options, but this tends to be a more expensive way of buying yarn.
  • The local yarn store I love to browse the colors and options in my local yarn store.  Where is my local yarn store? Good question...I had a few in New York, Seattle and now Colorado.  I often go more to browse than to buy.  The yarn is lovely, but $20 for one skein?  It usually doesn't fit my budget...

Those are the yarns in my stash and on my needles right now.  What yarns do you like to knit with?  Where do you buy them?
